PVC and EVA need separate machines; beginners often choose wrong

2026-03-27

In the footwear manufacturing industry, PVC and EVA are two very common materials, widely used in products such as work boots, safety shoes, slippers, and crocs. We often receive the same question from clients new to the footwear industry: "Can we buy one injection molding machine to handle both PVC and EVA?"

The answer is clear: No, and it is not recommended.

This is not a "limited feature" of our KINGRICH equipment but is determined by the materials themselves and the molding processes. The two materials cannot be used on the same machine. Below, we explain the reasons from several key perspectives.

Fundamental Material Differences:The Root Cause of Incompatibility

PVC and EVA may both seem like "plastics," but they belong to completely different material systems. EVA is a material that requires a foaming reaction inside the mold. PVC is a typical thermoplastic material where foaming is not allowed. This determines the core process direction: EVA requires "expansion molding," while PVC requires "compaction molding." These two process directions are entirely opposite.

Completely Different Molding Processes

EVA Injection Molding: Low-temperature injection, high-temperature mold, foaming completed within the mold. It is highly sensitive to temperature and time control.

Common applications: EVA slippers, crocs, sandals, foamed shoe soles.

PVC Injection Molding: High-temperature melting, high-pressure molding. Bubble formation is not allowed, aiming for density and strength.

Common applications: PVC work boots, safety shoes, rain boots, industrial shoe soles.

Entirely Different Temperature Control System Requirements

EVA Injection Molding Machine: Requires precise control of the foaming temperature zone. A variation of 2–3°C can affect product quality.

Pvc Injection Molding Machine: Requires stable high-temperature plasticization to prevent material scorching or decomposition.

The same temperature control system cannot meet the needs of these two different processes.

Different Injection and Screw Structures

EVA Injection Molding Machine: Requires large injection volume and low shear to prevent premature foaming of the material.

PVC Injection Molding Machine: Requires high-shear plasticization and stable pressure to ensure complete material melting.

Even focibly changing the screw cannot fundamentally solve the problem.

Mold Systems Are Also Not Interchangeable

EVA Molds: Require venting structures and space for foaming. Mold design centers on "uniform foaming."

PVC Molds: Focus on pressure bearing and strength. They have compact structures with no space for foaming. The design logic is completely different, making them non-interchangeable.

The Truly Cost-Effective Approach: Choosing the Right Equipment from the Start

Many clients hope to "save investment by using one machine for both." However, in the footwear industry, choosing the wrong equipment is often the most expensive decision. The relationship between PVC and EVA is like that of diesel cars and electric vehicles—they may look similar, but their power systems are entirely different.

Professional Equipment + Integrated Solutions: The Steadiest Choice for Beginners

As a source factory for footwear injection molding equipment, we recommend that clients choose the corresponding equipment and processes based on their product positioning.

Corresponding Equipment:

EVA Slippers / Crocs → EVA Injection Foaming Molding Machine.

PVC Work Boots / Safety Shoes → PVC Rotary Table Injection Molding Machine.

As a source manufacturer deeply involved in footwear injection molding equipment for many years, JUYU Machinery (KINGRICH) not only focuses on the R&D and production of the equipment itself but also places great emphasis on providing customers with truly actionable, mass-producible, and profitable integrated footwear manufacturing solutions.

For different materials and product directions, KINGRICH Machinery offers mature and stable EVA Injection Foaming Molding Machines and PVC Rotary Table Injection Molding Machines.
